Mariners as far as 19 miles out on the lake saw a constant white light for the irst time on November

        1867. The 112-foot tower was originally made of yellow cream brick. Because the brick deteriorated
        from exposure to the elements, a steel plate encasement was installed in 1900. The lighthouse
        keeper’s station is a beautiful two story white brick and wood structure.
