Page 50 - On the Shores of Lake Michigan
P. 50
This slender round column was built
in 1991, and is the newest
lighthouse in Michigan, and the
second memorial light in the state
(William Livingstone is the other
near Detroit).
Located at the harbor entrance to
Empire. Michigan, the light was
dedicated to an avid local isherman
and life-long resident of Empire.
Manning often remarked that a
light was needed to guide
isherman in from Lake Michigan
after evening ishing trips. The light
was built with donations from
family and friends.
This lovely three-story cylindrical
light tower is composed of stucco
and wood. The 38-foot tower is
painted white and sits on an
octagonal concrete foundation.
